OLED Screen Test
Inspect uniformity, image retention, and persistent image patterns.
Before you start
Use normal brightness and inspect each screen briefly. Look for fixed dots, tint differences, vertical bands, or outlines of previous content. Compare across colors and gray levels.
Keep this inspection brief. Prolonged static bright patterns or high brightness are unnecessary; exit when you have finished.
Next / Previous or arrow keys change color. Tap or click the plain surface for the next color. Hide controls for a clear view; tap to recover them, or press H or Tab. Exit with the Exit button or Escape.
How to use this test
- Use normal brightness and start the color/gray sequence.
- Inspect each background briefly for fixed dots, shading, bands, or outlines of earlier content.
- Exit when finished, compare ordinary varied content, and follow the exact model's care guidance for persistent concerns.
Want to compare this with timing, colors, and motion in one session? Run the Complete Monitor Test.
What to look for
Black and white help expose bright and dark dots. Primary colors can reveal tint differences or lingering outlines; selected gray levels can reveal bands and uneven shading. Temporary image retention may fade, while persistent uneven pixel wear can leave lasting patterns often called burn-in. This sequence helps you observe and describe patterns across backgrounds.
Know the limitations
There is no automatic burn-in detection, severity score, repair, or reliable distinction between temporary retention and permanent wear here. OLED protection features, automatic brightness, HDR, viewing conditions, and panel processing affect appearance. Follow the manufacturer’s care guidance for persistent concerns.
If an old image outline remains
Note which backgrounds reveal it without leaving static bright patterns open. A retained outline does not establish permanent wear in one session. The browser cannot run a panel compensation cycle, and repeated undocumented maintenance is not part of this test. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Common questions
Can this confirm OLED burn-in?
No. A lingering pattern is a visual observation. The browser cannot determine whether it is temporary retention or persistent wear. Compare ordinary content and follow your manufacturer’s guidance.
How long should I leave each screen open?
Only as long as needed for a brief visual look. This test needs no prolonged exposure or high brightness and does not run a repair or pixel-refresh cycle.
