OLED burn-in versus image retention
An outline of previous content can raise concern, but a single browser inspection cannot establish whether it will fade. Temporary image retention and persistent uneven wear require different interpretation and model-specific care.
A lingering image can have different causes
Temporary retention can leave a faint impression after static content. Persistent burn-in describes lasting uneven changes associated with repeated or prolonged content in the same region. Manufacturer terminology varies, so a lingering shape by itself does not confirm which condition is present.

Inspect briefly and keep a useful record
OLED Screen Test uses black, white, primary colors, and several grays. It helps you describe outlines, tint differences, and banding; it does not identify your panel model or score burn-in severity.
- Use normal brightness and view each color or gray briefly.
- Note whether the shape follows previous content and which backgrounds reveal it.
- Exit when finished and compare with ordinary varied content.
- Record whether the same outline remains visible after following the manufacturer's normal care guidance.
Use the display's own care instructions
Protection and maintenance features differ by model. Keep recommended protection enabled and follow the exact manual for any cleaning or compensation cycle. The browser does not run pixel refresh. Do not leave bright static patterns open for a long period, repeatedly trigger undocumented maintenance, or assume that a particular waiting time guarantees recovery.
Keep pixel dots, bands, and retained shapes separate
An isolated dot is a different observation from a broad retained outline. Gray bands can also be visible without tracing earlier content. Compare the relevant tool and ordinary viewing conditions rather than treating every visible difference as burn-in. For a persistent concern, send the manufacturer your observations and model details; this test cannot confirm permanent damage or decide a warranty claim.
